General Advice
Our treatment room nurses will provide general travel advice according to practice protocols on your itinerary.
However, with people travelling to more exotic locations, multi destinations and backpacking we now recognise that some itineraries are outside the scope of our expertise. In these cases we will recommend that you contact MASTA on 0906 822 4100 who provide an excellent service and all you pay for is the phone call (60p/min). They also have a website www.masta.org.
There are also plenty of good sources of information available on the internet and we would recommend the following.
We only provide a Travel Clinic for patients registered with us, except where a Yellow Fever vaccination is required. The Practice is a registered Yellow Fever Centre and can give Yellow Fever vaccination to patients not registered at the practice.
Prior to travelling abroad, please see the nurse approximately 6 weeks beforehand. This allows time for immunisations to be given.
- Call our reception (01903 264101) to make an appointment with the Travel Clinic.
- Download the Travel Questionnaire from our website or collect one from reception.
- Complete and return the questionnaire to reception at least 1 week before your appointment.
- A Travel Clinic Nurse will check to see what you require and call to advise you of any costs.
Some vaccinations are free of charge, others will cost a fee and others will involve you taking a private prescription, for which there is a £15 will also charge for the cost of the vaccination and the dispensing cost).

Anti-Malarials
Again, please use MASTA for up to the minute advice on which areas of the world require tablets for malaria protection and which type.
Most can be bought over the counter from the chemist but some will require a private prescription form your GP at a £12 charge per prescription per patient. (Note that the chemist will charge for the cost of the tablets and the dispensing cost).
Medical advice
Some patients who feel they are at a particular high risk form travelling may wish to discuss their travel arrangements with their G.P. However, our nurses are capable at answering most questions and will call upon the G.P’s advice if they feel the question lies outside their expertise.
