NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM
A new appointments system has been introduced for
doctors’ consultations to improve our service to
patients:
Aims:
To facilitate improved access for all patients of
the practice
To promote continuity of care for on-going problems
To offer patients a same day appointment
To promote the use of the telephone where
appropriate
Patients with ongoing problems requiring continuity
of care will be able to pre-book appointments with their
doctor.
Patients phoning in with new problems will be referred
to our ‘same day team’. Each patient will be telephoned
by a clinician to discuss their problem. The ‘same day
team’ will deal with the problem in one of three ways:
1. Give advice over the phone
2. Book an appointment
3. Arrange a visit when necessary
The ‘same day team’ will also be able to deal with
queries and prescriptions and to discuss patients’
results as required.
Nurse Consultations
Appointments to see members of the nursing team should
be made by telephoning our reception in advance of your
appointment. This can be done up to two weeks prior to
your intended appointment time. When you book you will
be asked to give a brief idea of the nature of your
appointment to enable us to allocate the necessary time
for your treatment.
Telephone consultations
As well as face-to-face appointments, we also have a
system of telephone consultations, which enable the
doctors and nurses to help you with some queries or
problems without your having to attend the surgery. The
receptionist will take your name, a contact number and a
brief message, and the doctor or nurse will then call
you back at a designated time.
NB: Please ensure you are available to receive the call!
Doctors’ Consultations
Doctors’ appointments, if needed, are now made on the
day for new problems. For ongoing problems, appointments
can be booked ahead with your regular doctor to maintain
continuity of care.
Contacting Your GP
You can contact your GP by phone and the receptionist
can leave a message by sending internal mail directly to
your doctor. HE/She may then return your call or act on
your request.
This, however, may not be on the same day as doctors’
hours are variable.
Internet Booking
Appointments can now be booked over the internet via emis access
